After 20 years of wrestling with the ever-increasing bureaucracy of running a small limited company, I’ve reached a point in my life where I feel it’s time to simplify and give myself a little more “me-time”. I’m therefore winding down the limited-company side of Rowanhill Consultants Ltd over the next few months – unless of course anyone out there is desperate to buy it as a going concern (but without its primary intellectual asset)…
However, I am not retiring just yet. I will continue to support existing clients and will be happy to undertake any new small and interesting projects with nice people. It’s just that I will be doing it as a freelance self-employed consultant, not as a company director. And of course I remain available for birthdays, weddings and bar mitzvahs…
The Rowanhill name survives, but as a brand rather than an organisation. In these pages I’ve gathered together some key thoughts and resources on aspects of organisations and behaviour that interest me – and where I feel I still have something to offer, namely:
- organisational analysis and development, including models and diagnostic tools
- people-management advice, especially on policy development, learning, job evaluation and salary structures
- competence management systems and frameworks that improve organisational performance and reduce risk
- action-research studies and special projects involving industry skills issues or employer groups
The ‘about’ pages give some background about me, my consulting philosophy, my project experience, and the sort of organisations I’ve worked with.
My blog page will carry occasional musings about current issues, on which you are free to comment. It will also have links to some of my earlier newsletters from the Rowanhill days.
